Re: Soil Vapor Extraction Project at 902 Anacapa Street in Santa Barbara, CA

CalClean, Inc., as operator, has applied to the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (District) to remediate gasoline contaminated soils at 902 Anacapa Street in Santa Barbara.  The remediation project is scheduled to begin in June or July 2018, and will last for up to approximately 90 days.  A portable thermal oxidizer treatment system, permitted under District Permit to Operate 14733, will be used to control air emissions from the project.  The location of the project is within 1,000 feet of the property boundary of La Cuesta High School (710 Santa Barbara Street) and Anacapa School (814 Santa Barbara Street) in Santa Barbara.

As part of the District’s evaluation of this proposed project, we have assessed the potential health risk created by the project’s emissions.  Our analysis, which is conservatively health protective, shows that the expected emissions from this temporary project will be below any levels that would create a significant air toxic risk to public health and the environment.  Before our agency approves this project, state law requires that we notify you, since you are either the parent/guardian of a student attending the school or are a resident or business located within 1,000 feet of the site.  We are providing you an opportunity to review and comment on this proposed project.  Further, prior to approving the project, we will submit to the permit’s administrative file our written responses to any comments we receive during the comment period.

A copy of the permit document (Permit to Operate 14733) is available for review at the following locations: District office: (260 North San Antonio Road, Suite A, Santa Barbara); and on this website by clicking on the link below:
