WHAT: Prescribed pile burning of 1-10 treated acres of slash from felled dead trees and brush.
WHEN: Starting February 22. Additional series of burns will occur through April. Burning operations will begin at 7:30 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. on a permissive burn day.
WHERE: Burning will occur near Figueroa Mountain and various other forest locations (updated on Los Padres Twitter and Facebook accounts).

Figueroa Mountain Project and Administrative Site Pile Burning Scheduled for February-April

The Los Padres National Forest has tentatively scheduled a prescribed burn at Figueroa Mountain and various administrative sites on forest lands (Campgrounds, Trailheads, and Fire Stations) with a burn window of February 16 through April 30. The goal of the series of one-day burns is to reduce the risk of wildfire. Prescribed, or planned, fires typically burn less intensely than wildfires. Prescribed burns can help prevent the spread of wildfires and can reduce impacts to watersheds that can result in soil loss and sedimentation.

State law (Health and Safety Code Section 40923) requires the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (District) to publish a list of regulatory measures scheduled for consideration each year. These regulatory measures, or rules and regulations, are adopted in order to reduce air pollution in Santa Barbara County. Air quality rules and regulations that may be adopted or amended during 2020 are listed below. Other measures may be proposed for adoption per the criteria specified in Section 40923 of the Health and Safety Code. Before the adoption or amendment or any regulatory measure, the District publishes a notice in a local newspaper and holds a public hearing to accept comments from affected businesses and other interested parties.
