2026 Clean Air Grants for Stationary Emergency Diesel Generators

Replace your diesel powered stationary emergency generator to help reduce air pollution.
Successful projects will be eligible to receive a grant within a range from $10,000 to $250,000. Actual grant amounts vary based on several factors, including but not limited to; emission reductions, eligible project costs, and fund availability.
- Priority will be given to projects located within disadvantaged communities, as defined by this map: SB 535 Disadvantaged Communities. (opens in a new tab)
- Emission reductions from the project must be surplus to any rule or regulation.
- The District has discretion on how grants funds are prioritized and distributed.
Project Requirements:
- The existing internal combustion generator must be operational and currently permitted with the air district for emergency use; stationary; rated Tier 0 (uncontrolled), Tier 1, or Tier 2; diesel-fueled; and greater than 25 horsepower.
- Replacement equipment shall be for a Tier 4 Final diesel emergency generator or cleaner technology including zero-emission technology.
- Other project types such as the installation of a diesel particulate filter may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Applications are limited to one (1) grant project per Company, LLC, Taxpayer ID, etc. with final determination at the District’s discretion.
- During the last 24 months, the engine must have operated 100% of the time in Santa Barbara County. Newly funded projects must also operate 100% of the time in Santa Barbara County.
- Applicants may apply for partial funding of associated infrastructure under the District’s Infrastructure Program, if the proposed generator is electric.

- Determine your engine’s eligibility for this program. To be eligible for funds, projects must meet the criteria located in Chapter 11 of CARB’s most recent Community Air Protection Project Guidelines. (opens in a new tab)
- Gather the required information regarding the existing generator.
- Apply for grant funds in person, by mail, or email.
