Fuel Cell Vehicles Day
September 6, 2002
Whereas, cars and trucks produce more than half of the onshore smog-forming pollution in Santa Barbara County; and
Whereas, as identified in Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control Districts 2001 Clean Air Plan, additional reductions in emissions from light-duty vehicles are needed if our county is to meet clean-air goals; and
Whereas, fuel cell vehicles are considered zero-emission vehicles by California Air Resources Board; and
Whereas, increased public awareness and acceptance of this clean vehicle technology are critically important to our ability to reap the clean-air benefits of fuel cell vehicles in this county; and
Whereas, the California Fuel Cell Partnership (www.drivingthefuture.org) is committed to advancing fuel cell vehicle technology, to demonstrating the technology by operating and testing the vehicles under real-world conditions in California, and to increasing public awareness of these vehicles and preparing the market for commercialization; and
Whereas, the California Fuel Cell Partnership plans to bring prototype fuel cell vehicles to Santa Barbara County September 6.
Therefore, be it resolved that September 6, 2002 is Fuel Cell Vehicles Day, and that the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District hereby applauds the efforts of the California Fuel Cell Partnership, welcomes these vehicles into our county, and encourages residents to learn more about this technology and its clean-air and environmental benefits.
