The Tajiguas Landfill is located 26 miles west of the City of Santa Barbara. The landfill has been in operation since 1967. Anaerobic decomposition of the waste in the landfill generates landfill gas, which is primarily a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide. A vapor extraction system collects the gas and routes it to Fortistar Methane Group’s cogeneration facility.
