APCD to Launch Voluntary Woodsmoke Reduction Program on December 12

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. — Today, Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (District) announced that the annual voluntary Woodsmoke Reduction Program that helps cover the costs of replacing residential wood-burning fireplaces or woodstoves with cleaner alternatives will launch on December 12. The District will reimburse participating retailers (listed below) up to $5,000 for replacement projects for customers who live in state-designated low-income communities, and up to $1,000 for projects for other customers.

Notice of Public Workshop

Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (District) will hold a public workshop at the time and location listed above to discuss a new draft rule, Rule 364. The draft rule requires all petroleum refineries within the District to install and maintain a fenceline monitoring network that can measure various criteria air pollutants and toxic air contaminants that are emitted from the refinery. The rule also requires the District to install and maintain a community air monitoring system to measure the refinery-related pollutants in the nearby community. The rule will satisfy the new requirements in California Health and Safety Code, consistent with Assembly Bill 1647 (2017-2018).

Righetti Ranch Prescribed Burn to Occur Tomorrow

WHAT: Prescribed burn of approximately 80 acres of sage scrub and chaparral. This prescribed burn is a follow-up burn to a successful 300-acre burn that occurred at the Righetti Ranch in November 2018.

WHEN: Wednesday, November 6. Burning will begin at approximately 8 a.m. and conclude by 6 p.m. on a permissive burn day.

Prescribed Burn at Righetti Ranch Scheduled for the Fall

SANTA MARIA, Calif. — A permitted range improvement burn has been planned in conjunction with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department at the Righetti Ranch south of Orcutt, between Highways 101 and 135, during the burn window of October 15, 2019 – January 1, 2020. The goal of this prescribed burn is to improve rangeland and reduce the risk of wildfire. Prescribed, or planned, fires typically burn less intensely than wildfires. Prescribed burns can help prevent the spread of wildfires, and can reduce impacts to watersheds that can result in soil loss and sedimentation.
