APCD To Launch Voluntary Electric Landscape Equipment Program March 4

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. — Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) is excited to announce a new program to encourage businesses, public agencies, and schools to use electric-powered landscaping equipment. Beginning on March 4, up to $100,000 is available for the Landscape Equipment Electrification Fund (LEEF) pilot program to provide vouchers covering up to 60 percent of the cost for eligible landscape equipment and up to 100 percent of the cost for additional batteries and chargers for equipment purchased through the program, up to a maximum of $10,000 per organization. Commercial landscaping businesses — as well as public agencies and public and private schools and universities that perform their own landscape maintenance — are eligible for the program. Individual homeowners are not eligible to apply.

Chevron Environmental Management Company has applied to the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (District) for a permit to excavate and remove approximately 5,000 cubic yards of soil contaminated by remnant oilfield road materials located at 2033 South Blosser Road in Santa Maria. Excavated material will be loaded on trucks for transportation offsite to a State‑approved disposal facility. The project site is within 1,320 feet of the property boundary of Roberto and Dr. Francisco Jiménez Elementary School, located at 1970 Biscayne Street, and Liberty Elementary School, located at 1300 Sonya Lane in Santa Maria.

Figueroa Mountain and Administration Pile Burning Scheduled for February-March

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. — The Los Padres National Forest has tentatively scheduled a prescribed burn at Figueroa Mountain and various administration sites on forest lands, with a burn window of February 3 through March 31. The goal of the series of one-day burns is to reduce the risk of wildfire. Prescribed, or planned, fires typically burn less intensely than wildfires. Prescribed burns can help prevent the spread of wildfires, and can reduce impacts to watersheds that can result in soil loss and sedimentation.

ES Engineering Services, LLC. has applied to the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (District) for a permit to install and operate a soil vapor extraction system (SVE) system with thermal oxidizer controls to remediate contaminated soil at a former gasoline service station located at 901 North H Street in Lompoc. The location of the project is within 1,000 feet of the property boundary of Olive Grove Charter School, located at 820 North H Street in Lompoc.

The Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (District) has made a preliminary decision to approve emission reduction credits for E&B Natural Resources Management Corporation (E&B). An emission reduction credit is earned by a company when it reduces air emissions beyond what is required by permits, rules, or when a facility shuts down. APCD to Launch Voluntary Woodsmoke Reduction Program on December 12

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. — Today, Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (District) announced that the annual voluntary Woodsmoke Reduction Program that helps cover the costs of replacing residential wood-burning fireplaces or woodstoves with cleaner alternatives will launch on December 12. The District will reimburse participating retailers (listed below) up to $5,000 for replacement projects for customers who live in state-designated low-income communities, and up to $1,000 for projects for other customers.
