Results from 2018 Marine Shipping Program

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The partners in an initiative to cut air pollution and protect endangered whales announced results from the 2018 program and recognized the 12 shipping companies that participated, reducing speeds to 10 knots or less in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Santa Barbara Channel region. The voluntary incentive program ran July 1 – November 15, 2018. Partners recognized the companies at a ceremony at the Bannings Landing Community Center near the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach.

Figueroa Mountain Pile Burn and Administration Pile Burn Scheduled for March

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The Los Padres National Forest has tentatively scheduled two separate prescribed burns to occur in March: the Figueroa Mountain Pile Burn and Administration Pile Burn. The burn window will start on March 5 and last through the month of March for both burns. Prescribed, or planned, fires typically burn less intensely than wildfires. Prescribed burns can help prevent the spread of wildfires, and can reduce impacts to watersheds that can result in soil loss and sedimentation.

Burton Mesa Pile Burning Project

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The Santa Barbara County Fire Department will be conducting pile burns in the Burton Mesa area over several days starting as early as February 25 and through June 1. The goal of these burns is to reduce biomass created as the result of community defensible space treatments completed by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department last year. Community defensible space treatments help to reduce potential property loss as well as reduce the risk to homeowners in the event of wildfire.

Regional Electric Drive 805 Coalition Launches

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (District), along with the Air Pollution Control Districts of San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties, Community Environmental Council (CEC), the Central Coast Clean Cities Coalition (C5), and Ventura County Regional Energy Alliance (VCREA) are teaming up to launch “Electric Drive 805.” This new coalition of local government agencies and non-profits will lead local efforts to increase access to affordable electric vehicles.

Notice of Public Review and Request for Comments

The Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (District) has made a preliminary decision to approve emission reduction credits for the Point Arguello Pipeline Company (PAPCO). An emission reduction credit is earned by a company when it reduces air emissions beyond what is required by permits and rules or when a facility shuts down. It is an asset that can be used by its owner or sold to companies that need emission offsets. Emission reduction credit amounts to be approved for PAPCO are:
